Life Imitates Art
The US military has developed a technology with a strange pedigree – it was invented in the comic books. A prototype of the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit, or TALOS, will be available later this month, and a more complete version should be ready between 2016 and 2018, according to Battelle, a science and technology research institute headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Why is this interesting? Because the TALOS is also called the “Iron Man Suit.”
The military’s “Iron Man” suit utilizes an exoskeleton with artificial muscles to make a soldier many times stronger than without the suit, while also being bulletproof and delivering external communication and information via a heads-up display in the helmet.
