Breakthrough in Sustainable Battery Technology

A startup company from Japan announced a new battery technology at a conference in San Francisco last week, and if the technology is able to achieve scalable manufacturing volumes, it has the potential to solve two major problems with current battery technologies by charging fast and by replacing heavy metals with 100% recyclable materials.

The new technology is called “Dual Carbon” battery technology because the anode and the cathode are both made from carbon.  It charges in 1/20 the time required for a Lithium-Ion battery and has more than 3,000 charge/discharge cycles.

The Dual Carbon battery is being developed by Power Japan Plus and was developed in partnership with researchers at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan.
