I recently read an excerpt from Rob Lowe’s new autobiography, discussing how unprepared he was to send his oldest son off to college. It is beautifully written, and I recommend it to anyone, whether or not you have children and whether or not those children are heading off to college anytime soon.
I was particularly applicable in my family, where our older daughter will be going to college this fall. I know that I am not prepared. I know that I will not be prepared. But at least I know better after reading this that no one else is really ever prepared to send that first child out into the world.
We are trying to treasure the time that the family has together – and also to make sure that our younger daughter does not feel lost in the shuffle of attention on the older daughter.
